Halo is a non-profit incorporated career and personal leadership development agency advancing  Hopes, Aspirations and Leadership Opportunities.

The agency listens to the needs of young people providing advocacy, programmes, peer mentoring and networking opportunities that enable individuals to discover who they are, design their own futures and make a difference in their communities.

What we do

Our unique model of programmes focuses not on what needs to be fixed but on what 'can be'  inspiring new found hope, determination, self belief and action.

Joining Halo is no easy ride - participants are required to take a really good look at all areas of their lives including their social, physical and emotional wellbeing and are all here because they want to be.

Naidoc 2010

This year the Halo team gave keynote addresses at Wooroloo Prison Farm, Banksia Hill Detention Centre, Rangeview Remand Centre and the Department of Corrective Services Corporate Event.

The event described by staff as "the most inspiring thing they had ever seen" provided an opportunity for everyone to remember the past, show respect for families and community Elders and to celebrate the many achievements of the Halo team.

Motivational & PD Workshops change the world for others!

The Halo team together also provide youth driven Motivational & Professional Development to workers and  Cultural, Career and Life Coaching Workshops to young people.

Taking part in a Halo workshop not only provides a unique and truly inspiring experience for those attending; it also contributes to strengthening the resilience and personal capacity of the young men delivering the workshops.

"Delivering the Halo workshops and PD give the Halo team a real sense of purpose. The workshops are something they believe in allowing them to not only take control of their own lives but to work together to become part of something bigger.

The workshops allow these young men not only to affect change in their own lives  but to change the world for others" (Founder Lee-Anne Smith)

Halo programmes make good economic sense

President of Perth's Childrens Court Judge Reynolds joins Halo in it's quest for sustainability beyond 2010.

According to Department of Corrective Services data it cost $473.78 a day to incarcerate a juvenile, that is over $190,000 per year. It costs Halo around $30 000 per year to fund a peer support trainee youth worker's wage. At present we have three on staff who are effecting significant changes in the lives of around 40 young people. Halo juvenile participants rarely re-offend and they almost never return to detention.   Investing in Halo's diversion and prevention programmes is not just about doing what is right it simply makes good economic sense.

Halo wins preferred service provider contract at Banksia Hill

Halo was successful in winning a 'through care' support contract to take the Coaching young people for success programme to detainees inside Banksia Hill Detention Centre.

Each remanded and sentenced young person will be given the opportunity to develop their own personalised careeer and personal support plan. The plan and ongoing through care support provided by Halo staff will provide 'real' opportunities that motivate determination, resilience and action.

2009 A YEAR TO REMEMBER!

Halo's Annual celebration lunch 2009 - Monday November 14

At the end of every year by invitation only, participants and their families celebrate and share with our Halo supporters and sponsors their personal achievements.

With around 120 people attending, last year's 2009 event would not have been possible without the generous support of Fitzy's Lakeside Restaurant owner Mike Giacobino.

The year Halo met the Prime Minister

Our biggest hilight of the year just beating our Halo Magpies Grandinal win was meeting Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. The Prime Minister took the time to listen to our Halo boys dreams and aspirations for the future.

He was also presented with our first ever framed print painted by Justin Slater. The original was later purchased by the City of Cockburn and is now hanging at Cockburn Council.

Halo Magpies win the Reclink Community Cup

Reclink is a charitable organisation whose mission is to provide sporting, social and arts activities to enhance the lives of people who may not ordinarily access a mainstream competition.

The competition provided Halo with an amazing opportunity for players to connect, strengthen personal capacity and feel great about who they are. Playing in this competition was definitely one of our biggest hilights of the year. Not to mention winning the cup at Fremantle oval!
