Looking for a fresh start back in 1996 Lee-Anne and her son Billy moved to the suburb of Southlake. At the time they could never have estimated the impact that tiny suburb in Cockburn would have on their lives. Lee-Anne loved and believed in the potential of the kids, young people and the familes around her but could see they needed a helping hand.
After working in Cockburn for nearly 10 years volunteering and for other community service organisations, in 2005 they sold the family home to fund the Halo leadership development agency. In 2007 Halo was incorporated as a non-profit community based organisation that would be run and directed by the community.
Always striving for best practice Lee-Anne has researched, coordinated and delivered many successful personal leadership and career development programmes and has an unwavering commitment to delivering the best possible programmes that produce 'real' and sustainable outcomes. One of those programmes is the Coaching Young People for Success workshops incorporating positive psychology. Every participant at Halo completes this programme. For many taking part in our programmes it will be the first time their ideas and opinions have been taken seriously. The programmes provide 'real' opportunities for participants to develop skills, discover who they are, build competencies, acquire confidence and form aspirations. "Failure is not an option - everyone that walks through our doors is given a real opportunity to strengthen their personal capacity, learn about their culture, make a difference in their own lives and change the world for others" (Lee-Anne). We are not in favour of 'pilot programmes' that do not provide ongoing support and for this reason choose carefully which schools and agencies we partner with, we believe in being there for the long haul!" (Lee-Anne) Halo and it’s programmes are now well known by Federal, Local and State Government Departments including the Department for Child Protection and Department of Justice, Challenger TAFE’s Centre for Leadership & Community Development, as well as many other non Government Community based Agencies.
