Integrity

For some young people inter-generational unemployment is a significant issue that has far reaching consequences.

Research shows those unemployed are less likely to have strong support networks. Long term unemployment increases the risk of self-harm, suicide, attempted suicide, and has a negative effect on the health of children. Children with no parent in paid employment are also more likely to have serious chronic illnesses.

The flexibility of the programme allows participants to address both their vocational and non-vocational barriers to education and employment.

Students participating in Halo's Integrity 18 week series are given a ‘real’ opportunity to develop social and employability skills, increase their overall sense of well-being and begin sharing their dreams and aspirations for the future. As 2010 approaches this programme enters it's 4th year at Lakelands Senior high School.

 Outcomes are achieved through:

  • Career & PD Workshops providing opportunities for students to develop a personal profile and career development pathway plan.
  • Industry visits - providing students with an opportunity to connect and explore opportunities for future employment or training for 2009.  These visits are established throughout the programme as participants develop areas of interest with particular emphasis placed on local industry and local labour market shortages.
  • Community based agency visits – providing an opportunity for students to discover and build a relationship with community based support agencies. The section of the programme provides opportunities for students to identify and begin developing strategies to identify and address their non-vocational barriers

 ...and much more!
