An essential element of this project is the cultural journey delivered by professional Noongar facilitators. This component provides participants with cultural awareness, historical context, sense of belonging, ownership and a better understanding of the country they belong to. The lasting benefits are far reaching. Participants develop an understanding of the responsibilities they are required to accept for themselves and for their family, and to recognise their role and place in Noongar culture
Remembrance DayMany Australians stop what they are doing at exactly 11am in their local times on November 11 each year to dedicate a minute of silence for those who died in war. This year Cockburn RSL was the first in Western Australia to remember the sacrifices and contribution of our first Australians. Adrian Ugle and Timmy Kelly shared a very moving spirit dance. As a result of the impact made by the Halo team Chief Marshall Arthur Stanton has invited the team back to share, remember and contribute at Cockburn's 2010 Anzac Dawn and Youth Services.
White Ribbon DayWhite Ribbon Day is held each year on 25 November and is the international day when people wear a white ribbon to show that they do not condone violence towards women. This year many Halo Participants signed a pledge never to commit violence against women. The group also asserted that violence is not part of their culture.
Fremantle Wardarnji FestivalThe festival celebrates heritage through Nyoongar eyes with a unique blend of Music, Dance and Visual performance inspired by one of the world’s oldest living cultures. This celebration blends the traditional with the contemporary through an array of Cultural Workshops and Activities, Art and Craft Displays. Halo was delighted to perform with Timmy Kelly and the Young Bloods this year.
